Comments on blog

I have found that I am not getting email notification about comments as I used to. This is a common problem I understand and has been going on since May, I believe.  I've read loads of help pages. I see that a lot of people are now moving away from blogger and I guess I might have to consider that. I have tried to correct this but don't know if I've been successful yet.

In the process of trying to resolve the problem, I looked at parts of the blogger settings that I have never seen before (I don't usually delve into the settings)  and found quite a few comments in my spam that were not spam. As a result, I didn't reply to these although I do reply normally to all comments made - but I have to see them. I also understand that spam comments are only kept for a brief period so it is likely that I have missed many more. 30% of the 'spam' comments were not spam but 70% were correctly identified.

Sorry if I haven't replied to a comment you've made. Please, please don't let this put you off!

Anyway, finger crossed. 🤞

I have received the subscribe to comments notice so, let's see,

Please let me know if there is an issue.

Thanks

Anne

Update:
I received an email notification of a comment from Marianne who is also having this problem. For anyone interested, I have listed the process I wen through below in my response to her comment.

  1. I'm not getting email notifications either. What do you mean by the subscribe to comments note? Test, test! Hope you've solved the issue!

    1. Hi Marianne. I got an email notification of your comment, so I think it could be working!! Here is what I did:
Go into blogger settings. There is a subheading ‘email’. Go into that. Further down there is a box labelled ‘comment notification email’ containing your email. Delete that email address and save settings with a blank there. (At this point I entered a second email address and went through the process again but I’m not sure that’s necessary.) Then you can enter a new or presumably the same email address as previously and once more save settings. I was then sent a notification by email from blogger asking me to subscribe to comments from my own blog (yes, really!). I accepted that. As I have received notification of your comment, I assume it has worked.
Please note, I don’t have moderation switched on – I have read about the process for this but I didn’t need to do that. I gather though that an email address is entered and this should match the other email. Some people apparently ran into problems as they were using two different emails. I don’t know if this applies to you.
Fingers crossed you get it to work (let me know) and fingers crossed it stays working!!

    2. Thanks, Anne! I changed my e-mail address and then again back to the old one, commented on my own blog to test and indeed got a notification. So basically we are still using the same settings that always worked before they stopped working. So strange!

    3. I'm glad it worked, Marianne. All due to GDPR I think?
